This course encompasses the history and landmark laws that are associated with special education, the exceptionalities that are identified by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and includes a comprehensive survey of the psychological and educational needs of exceptional children from birth to adult; incorporating strategies for students with exceptionalities in the general classroom and the community. Candidates will complete 25 hours of lab in various educational and transition settings provided for students with exceptionalities. GDPC Prerequisite: A course in Human Development (AU Bulletin 2019-20).
