ENGL 215 provides an introduction to source-based, academic writing, including practice in summarizing, analyzing, synthesizing, and reading from a critical perspective. Sections are organized thematically.

This section of ENGL 215 takes writing as its theme; that is, we will look at writing as a subject to be studied, not as a set of generalizable skills to be learned and then applied to all subsequent writing contexts. While this course will still include a fair amount of writing, the specific content we engage through these written tasks will be drawn from the discipline of writing studies. Building on ENGL 115, this asks you to continue your consideration of “how writing works and functions.” Just as a Foundations of Biology course sequence functions for a biology major or fulfills ACE requirements, this course, in combination with College Writing I, forms a sequence of Introduction to Writing courses that introduces you to and familiarizes you with key concepts and ideas that inform the field of writing studies.
