This course introduces students to the fundamental techniques of orchestration, focusing on the arrangement of music for various ensembles, including string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Students will explore the unique characteristics, ranges, and timbres of individual instruments and how these elements can be combined effectively to achieve desired musical textures. The course includes both theoretical studies and practical exercises in scoring for small and large ensembles, leading to the creation of original orchestrations.
Through analysis of orchestral works from different periods and styles, students will gain insights into traditional and contemporary orchestration practices.
